Cupping in Denton

Cupping is a practice that dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. This therapy is designed to stimulate and improve blood flow, reduce inflammation and improve lymphatic drainage. This increase in blood flow will help your muscles to decompress and relax.

cupping therapy treatment

At Denton Sports Chiropractic, we use small plastic cups to create a suction to the skin. Removing the oxygen from the cups creates a vacuum effect that pulls the tissue upward, creating decompression of the tissue and an increase in blood flow.During a session, we may utilize the cups in different ways. You may feel your doctor gently gliding the cup across your skin, or we might even make you take your muscles through an active range of motion. Patients often remark that this feels great! If you suffer from musculoskeletal issues, especially muscle and soft tissue pain, we recommend that you give cupping a try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cupping hurt?

You may feel a slight ‘pinching’ of the skin when a cup is placed on you, but most patients find cupping to be soothing and relaxing. The areas where cups are placed may begin to feel warm as your blood starts pumping in the area being stimulated.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend that you wear athletic, comfortable clothing. Please note, the cups will be placed directly onto your skin, so you may have to move clothing during a session, but only to your comfort level.

Will I bruise after cupping?

A lot of patients will experience bruising after cupping sessions, but it may not happen to you. Generally, if you feel that you bruise easily, you’ll likely experience a bit of bruising from cupping. Bruising from cupping usually lasts between 1-2 weeks, and then resolves on its own. Cupping can cause soreness for about 24 hours.
